Ferry Trip to Mykonos

If you fancy adding a slice of evocative magic to your trip, why not arrive in Mykonos by sea? It is an island after all! Greek islanders are seasoned ferry experts, and often prefer to travel by ferry because of the convenience and flexibility it affords. Ferry trips from Athens to Mykonos operate from the ports of Piraeusand Rafina. Piraeus is around 1 hour’s drive from the airport, and around 30 minutes from the city centre (depending on traffic), while Rafina is about 20 minutes from Athens airport by car and between 1 and 1 and half hours from the city centre. Both ports are also accessible by bus, and there is also a direct Metro train line from Athens Airport to Piraeus. From Piraeus and Rafina ports you can take either a ferry or a two sorts of catamaran to Mykonos. Ferries take around 4-5 hours to reach Mykonos, and as they are more sedate they are often a good choice if you’re a bit unsteady at sea! A trip on a high speed catamaran takes about 2 hours and is an experience more like plane travel. There’s a choice of ferries running daily to and from Athens and Mykonos with stops along the way. If you’re doing some island-hopping too, you may well find that a ferry offers a fun and exciting way to explore the Greek islands.
